Overview of Toby D. Wilson and Wilson Hospitality

Wilson Hospitality is a property management firm, founded in May 2001 by Toby D. Wilson. Toby’s first job was in hospitality – bussing tables at the Sheraton Hotel, in Tuscaloosa, AL. Years later he graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Corporate Finance and Investment Management. A month after graduation, Toby began his management career as the Assistant General Manager, at the Hampton Inn Tuscaloosa-University; he was the opening General Manager of the Tuscaloosa-East property, at age 23. After briefly working at the Embassy Suites in Charlotte, NC, Toby returned to Tuscaloosa and founded Wilson Hospitality Management for the investors of the Hampton Inn properties.

Wilson Hospitality initiated the formal strategic planning process, developed the internal management systems, and maintained all other elements to facilitate the growth. With help from the professionals at Four Winds Group, WHM developed an asset management program, which has delivered consistent results since its inception in the fall of 2008. MPET (Maintenance Productivity and Enhancement Tool) as it is called, allows information and maintenance problems to be tracked at their source and eliminate wasted time. WHM can offer this service on a consultative basis, as well as provide consulting services related to quality assurance, guest service, human resources, etc.

The success of WHM is strongly guided by our mission: a set of core values implemented by every member of the WHM team. The mission is to “Take care of people”. These values guide the company, making us resilient to adversity and the daily challenges associated with property management. Our mission showed exceptional strength when Wilson Hospitality and its associates  were heavily involved with relief efforts, from Hurricane Katrina and the tornado of April 27, 2011, which destroyed a great deal of Tuscaloosa. We know what it means to take care of people, whether they are our guests, our staff or any member of the community and taking care of people is exactly what we do.

Wilson Hospitality has been the winner of the Hotelier of the Year for the State of Alabama and the Governor’s Award for employing people with disabilities, among other awards/recognitions from the Hampton brand for solid performance over the last decade.
